This guy is my hero.

Apparently the aide was fired, but the IEP teacher was simply moved to a new school. THIS IS APPALLING. There is absolutely no excuse for a teacher, a person who is supposed to be an INSPIRATION and a ROLE MODEL, to be bullying a child. None. This sickens me. Tenure or not, she deserves to be removed from her position. To call a special needs child (ANY child) “a bastard” is unforgivable. My head cannot wrap around the fact that a grown ass adult was able to viciously and verbally attack a student in such a way. This is sick, and she deserves all the wrath that comes her way.

It is crazy the words that people are able to say behind closed doors, with the belief that such words will never get out. I have so much respect for Stuart Chaifetz. He did not sit idly by; his outspokenness has brought so much attention to this truly heinous situation. What happened to compassion and providing a nurturing learning environment? Bullying has recently been brought to the forefront of this discussion for both public and private schools, but I would never have thought that teachers would be active participants in this truly disgusting behavior.

Chaifetz created a petition to NJ Legislation urging lawmakers to impose zero tolerance when it comes to teacher-student bullying. You can sign it here. Akian and no other child should ever be subjected to such disgusting behavior. He deserves a public apology so that one day, he can look back and know that he did absolutely wrong. No child deserves such heartless treatment.

Best Friend

Take a picture, trick, I'm on a boat.

This Friday I got the opportunity to go kayaking with some of the girls from my dorm. It was lovely. They were lovely. It made me realize I need to venture out of the dark confines of my room more and socialize.

On a related note, Lady Bird Lake is beautiful.

Self-loathing post of the day

I feel like I have been phoning in everything going on in my life for the past semester.

I am so tired of flying by the seat of my pants.

Time to clear my head, set goals, and see 'em done.

Shall I Compare Thee to a Canadian Synth Pop Musician?

Earlier this week somebody told me I look like Lights Poxleitner. They must have been seeing me through beer goggles. Not even. More like those exaggerated, fake beer googles they use for workshops in high school where they tell you not to drink or you'll end up sitting at an AA meeting 8 years down the line with nothing to keep you warm at night but your own shame and that mini bottle of rum kept hidden in your nightstand. yeah I read between the lines.

Exhibit A: An 8 without the influence of alcohol (right). A 10 with the influence of alcohol (left).
Exhibit B: My kind of beer goggles

Back to the point. I suppose being compared to Lights is better than being told I look like Charlyne Yi WHICH I GET ALL THE TIME. But Charlyne is at least awkward and dorky (+simultaneously endearing); L-POX is just the epitome of cool/gorgeous. It's like when your high school English teacher, who is completely bald and wears heavy square frames (before they were cool and ironic, mind you) and looks a bit like the ragdolls from 9, goes to China and is told by multiple Asian people that he looks like Brad Pitt while aboard a double-decker bus. You know they're either (a) blind, (b) full of shit, or (c) gonna try to sell you a suit exactry rike the one Brad wore to the Golden Grobes. You know it's too good to be true, but it's still nice to be associated with someone so cool.

Here's a side-by-side comparison of Brad Pitt and Richard Orlopp, my 10th grade English teacher (who introduced me to Dead Poets Society--coolest teacher ever).

...even labeled it in case you get confused and can't tell which one's which.

Anyways, anyone reading this have a celebrity doppelganger? I want to see this shit.

Excerpt from a Conversation w/ Donald Glover

Me: ...hi.
CG:  hey
Me: uh..I..that was a great show. (pauses) ....I don't know why, but I'm really nervous right now.
CG: why?!
Me: I don't know.
CG: you look really familiar.
Me: huh?
CG: yeah, your face does. have you come to a show before?
Me: no, I just stalk you
CG: (nervous laugh)
Me:  will you sign my ticket?
CG: yeah sure. (signs ticket)
Me: (points to brace) how's your foot doing?
CG: better! this was my first show since it happened.
Me: yeah, I heard. I was so bummed because I wanted to see you perform at the woodies
CG: yea I know! it happened right before. I was so sad, I'm sorry!
Me: no it's okay, things involving me and wood usually end in tearful apologies
CG: (throws head back and laughs)
Me: *dies*

Not ashamed.

Gimme Shelter, as The Rolling Stones would say

I stumbled across Foam while browsing the sale section at Zumiez. Nestled amongst the clusterfuck that is the clearance section there, I found my first issue. The cover featured Clemence Poesy (who is an adorable human being, and Fleur Delacour in the Harry Potter films for those who don't know). My ex-roommate harbors quite the girl crush on her, so I instantly snatched it up. Been meaning to find it to give to her, come to think of it. woops.

Anyways, $9.40 total for the magazine, a flyer for a free subscription, some shitty nail polish, and a Glamour Kills shirt. $9.40! Package deal, kiddos. Since that fateful encounter, I have fallen in love with Foam. They have some of the coolest fashion editorials--eclectic, dynamic, and just hella creative. Imagine my joy when I opened this month's issue and saw one of my favorites, Gillian Zinser, featured in a shoot aptly titled "Gimme Shelter". Ignoring the truly heinous font, this has got to be one of my favorite editorials:

Lesson learned: don't skip out on the sale section, even when it looks like more of a hot mess than Snooki in a leather miniskirt.

In want of some inspiration

"For this exercise, I would like you to rewrite the first sentence of Pride and Prejudice---

--as a heroic couplet in the vein of Alexander Pope. A heroic couplet, once again, is a rhymed unit of two lines in iambic pentameter. Trying to preserve its own wit while keeping the sentiment intact, please turn Austen's first sentence into a Pope-like heroic couplet."

Three words:

Walk The Moon. They're going to blow up. Allow me to sit back and watch.

Hello, dudebros.

Name's Amy. Put 'er there.

Allow me some time to get this shit looking aesthetically pleasing and shit.
